Before starting If Only Lola Lee, I "practiced" by creating invitations for my kids' birthdays. My first attempt was for my eldest child's first birthday. We had a Dr. Seuss theme and I loved every minute of creating each stationery product for the celebration. You can see my rough designs and ideas here and the birthday banner here.
Now my son is turning FIVE in a month and I cannot believe it! This year has been the first year that he has us what theme he has in mind for his party. It started off as a car and train party, which then became a dinosaur party. He has finally decided to have a Transformers birthday.
He was quite particular as to what the color scheme needed to be too. It *had* to be yellow and black, and he *had* to have a yellow and black Transformer on it as well.
Here's what I was able to design with the image that he *had* to have. (Image can be found here.)
When I showed him his birthday invitations after they were picked up from the printer, he said, "Yeah, these are cool! You have to use these!" When an almost five year old tells you they're cool, then you know you've made it right!
